Vermin damage
Vermin damage can happen to any property; it can be done by rodents or birds such as jackdaws. Should this occur, we can repair and patch the area. If the damage is caused by rodents, we can place some poison directly in to the holes to try and eliminate the problem before patching the area.
Moss Growth
Moss growth is common on most thatched properties. It is normally prevalent on north facing elevations where the roof doesn’t dry out and therefore remains damp for longer periods of time.
Re-ridging
The average life-span of a ridge should be 10 to 15 years. Therefore re-ridging must be carried out periodically to maximise the life of the main roof. The new ridge will fade rapidly and blend in with the rest of the main roof.
Small Leaks
Some areas of the roof may deteriorate sooner than others such as the valley areas and around chimneys. This is usually caused by rain water converging in to one area. A gully may form which is more prone to leak.
In order to prevent the area from deteriorating further, we would remove any decaying material and pack and patch the area in order to prolong the life of the thatch and postpone the need for a re-thatch.
